PRANA: from the root “pra” meaning to  fill. Prana is the notion of a vital, sustaining life force shared by every living creature. Often synonymous with “breath,” it is considered the link between  spiritual and physical self.

YOGA: to “yoke” or to “harness”.  Yoga is a harmonizing system of postures, breathing, and meditation that unites the mind, body and spirit. It is a practical method of liberating the self, an ancient discipline that leads to tranquility, insight and well-being.

Yoga was born from the desire for personal freedom, self-awareness, and good health.  The practice of yoga dates back more than 5,000 years and has evolved into uncountable subdivisions and variations. In Western Culture, yoga continues to grow in popularity as a form of low-impact physical exercise. It is exciting to live in time where you can find a yoga class everywhere in the world you go!
Aside from exercise, yoga is first and foremost a form of meditation, and  has been used as alternative therapy for conditions as diverse as cancer, diabetes, asthma, AIDS, depression, and PTSD.
How does this work? In addition to building strength and flexibility, yoga asanas (postures) stimulate the flow of prana. This combination of breathing and movement, when done properly, can promote improved function of the body systems and mental wellness.

Practicing yoga can not only improve the quality of life for medical patients, but also for those living with a disability. The physical exercise combined with meditation techniques are not only beneficial physically, they bring awareness to the subtle energy moving through your body and can be harnessed to heal.  Whatever your life situation or circumstance, yoga can help you achieve an improved physical condition, a more relaxed attitude, a better balance in your daily life, and a deeper connection to the spirit.
