Thai Yoga Bodywork

Thai Yoga Bodywork is based on the ancient healing art of Nuad Boran. Through passive therapeutic stretching, assisted hatha yoga postures, and gentle pressure along energy lines, Thai yoga restores balance and harmony to the mind and body. Thai Yoga Bodywork is appropriate for everyone. It can be a blissful gift to yourself or a loved one or a therapeutic practice for those with chronic pain or disability.

What to expect from a session:

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • The session will be offered on a futon-style floor mat.
  • Sessions are 60-minutes long, and are done in a form of vinyasa (flow), which begins with the feet and ends with the head.
  • All of your movements will be passive. The more you let go, the more you will receive.

Ashley received her training in Thai Yoga Bodywork from Jonas Westring. A physical therapist, senior Anusara Yoga teacher and assistant to John Friend, Jonas discovered Thai massage and brilliantly blended these three disciplines to develop Thai Yoga Bodywork.

Tractioning for low back release

For the experienced yogi as well as those stepping onto the mat for the first time, yoga is good for whatever ails you. A therapeutic yoga session is a safe space to work with minor aches or chronic pain, or to help heal an injury.

In session, clients experience relief through a series of postures and release techniques, traction and supported poses. Those with an established yoga practice will learn counter-poses to restore balance, as well as prop modification for poses that are difficult due to injury or physical limitations.

Restorative poses, which refresh and renew, and are an essential element in recovery and conclude each session.

Yoga for Students with Disabilities

Adaptive yoga sessions introduce those living with disability insight to the mind-body benefits of yoga. Modified yoga asanas (postures) and breathing techniques, therapeutic stretching and Thai Yoga Bodywork techniques are used. Benefits include increased strength, balance and flexibility; the capacity to live more fully within the body; and an enhanced ability to manage stress.

“Practicing yoga is both a physical endeavor and a personal journey for any student. It requires personal commitment as well as support and guidance. If you live with a disability, it is especially important to believe yoga is not only possible for you, but that you can experience its wonder and benefits just like anyone else.”-Matthew Sanford
